Bill Browne
The body of a missing fisherman who fell from a boat in the Colorado River near Rifle in October has been recovered.
The body of Bill Browne, 52, of Houston, Texas, was discovered Tuesday afternoon after police received a report of a possible body in the river near the Rifle boat ramp. No information was released about the discovery until Friday afternoon.
The Rifle Police Department responded to the scene and immediately requested the assistance of Garfield County Search and Rescue, Inc.
Browne went missing after being thrown from the boat after colliding with a concrete pylon beneath the South Railroad Avenue bridge that spans the river. The collision caused the boat to capsize, throwing all three passengers overboard. Two were able to make it safely to shore, but Browne did not.
Crews searched a stretch of the Colorado River for several days after the incident and were able to recover the boat which Browne was fishing from on Oct. 22.
According to previous reports, Browne and some friends were fishing the Colorado River that day, in two boats. The three people in the second boat were unharmed and immediately contacted authorities of the incident.
