Summer is officially here and the season there's plenty of things to do in Rifle through the city's recreation programs, some of which start this weekend and through the month of June.
The Art Dague Pool & Waterslide at Railroad Avenue and 18th Street opened a few days earlier than scheduled on Saturday, May 30 to lots of sunshine, but not a whole lot of people.
“It was kind of slow — we probably had about 50 people,” said Linda Stilson, recreation coordinator/pool manager. “I think it was because we originally schedule the opening for Tuesday (June 1) and people didn't know. But Sunday was busy with more than 100 people.”
The pool hours remain the same this year at opening every day at 11:30 a.m. for adult swim with adult swim following at 12:30. The pool is open until 6 p.m. on Sunday; 9 p.m. on Monday; 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday; 99 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Daily pool prices also remain the same as last year at $5 for kids under 15; $6 for 16 and older; and $2.50 for seniors.
The pool offers swimming lessons, water aerobics and lap swims
The city's Recreation Department offers more than 50 programs for children, adults and seniors that encompass everything from sports, to recreation, tours and trips, fun activities and events.
“There's still time to sign up for programs, you only can't if they've already started, like baseball and softball,” said Recreation Director Aleks Briedis. “But there's things like youth basketball, golf, mini T-ball and crafts.”
