The Grand River Hospital District has won three business of the year awards from local chambers in recent years — the latest at the annual Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner held on March 13, where GRHD was honored as Business of the Year for 2009.
“Grand River was nominated for Business of the Year by the chamber membership. When the committee reviewed the nominees, Grand River Hospital District stood out in terms of the community service activities they performed over the last year,” said Annick Pruett, president and CEO of the chamber. “We are very proud we were able to keep it in secret and surprise them at the event. They certainly deserved this award.”
GRHD serves a 1,500 square mile region that includes Parachute/Battlement Mesa, Rifle and Silt. With the addition of this year's award, Grand River has been honored as Business of the Year from every chamber in their district.
The Silt Area Chamber of Commerce named Grand River the 2005 Business of the Year. In 2006, the Parachute/Battlement Mesa Chamber of Commerce gave Grand River the same recognition. It also received the 2009 Business of the Year from the Rifle Economic Development Corporation.
“It is truly an honor and a privilege for Grand River to serve the community of Rifle and all of the communities in our service territory,” said Marie Wisdom, chief executive officer of GRHD. To be recognized as Business of the Year by Silt, Battlement Mesa/Parachute and now Rifle — all within a four-year time period — has been thrilling for us. Grand River's employees, physicians and Board will continue to do everything we can to ensure that we remain worth of this honor.”
Grand River Hospital District is a special tax district that was formed in 1961 to ensure healthcare availability to the local area. Since then, Grand River has grown and changed immensely, moving from Clagett Memorial Hospital to the new Grand River Hospital and Medical Center in 2003. In June of 2009, they opened a new addition to that facility, allowing for more services, programs and staff.
Grand River Hospital and Medical Center offers hospital services, including 24/7 ER, radiology, inpatient and outpatient surgery and cardiopulmonary. There is a Physical Therapy Center with an aqua therapy pool, an Activities of Daily Living Unit and providers that offer family health, internal medicine, women's health and specialty care. They have two facilities in Battlement Mesa — the Battlement Mesa Medical Clinic, which offers family health and specialty care, and Grand River Health and Safety Center, which offers physical therapy and occupational health services. Also located in Rifle is E. Dene Moore Care Center, a long term care facility.
Grand River operates the Meals on Wheels of Western Garfield County program, which delivers more than 800 meals a month to senior, disabled and recovering citizens of New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute and Battlement Mesa. They also offer low-cost health fairs, free sports physicals, a ski helmet giveaway, scholarships and more throughout the year to local communities.
