Irma Perez, owner of the Bliss Boutique in north Rifle, fulfilled one of her dreams when she opened her store three months ago. The boutique caters to women of all ages, helping them to both look better and feel better.
RIFLE — Irma Perez of Parachute had always dreamed of having her own shop selling things for women that both helped and enhanced their lives.
That dream came true three months ago when she opened her store, Bliss Boutique, at 120 E. 26th St. #2 in north Rifle.
“This was something I always wanted to do — it was a dream,” Perez said. “I've done banking, sales and real estate and I'm not getting any younger. So I decided I'm going to do it.”
Determined, Perez took courses at Colorado Mountain College in Rifle and at the Small Business Development Center in Grand Junction for two years, studying things such as bookkeeping, marketing and tax information. Born and raised in Texas, Perez spent 12 years in Fort Collins before moving to Parachute five years ago.
“It was the basics of everything you need to know,” Perez said. “It was in November of 2007 that I decided I was ready.”
She spent months looking for a place to rent for her store front and finally found the right place in north Rifle, just across the way from Kentucky Fried Chicken. She spruced up the place, painting the walls, putting in new carpet and installing tile.
The small store sells a variety of products that all cater to women and things women enjoy, including jewelry, knick-knacks, seasonal clothing including hats, scarves, sweaters and coats, pedicure sets, purses, stuffed animals, pill boxes, hat boxes, pads to wear under bra straps, tableware and motivational, spiritual and inspirational books.
“The jewelry and the clothing are the top sellers,” Perez said.
She describes her merchandise as “unique” — things you won't find in an ordinary store.
“I try not to purchase things that everyone else does,” she explained. “I want to get a feel of what women in Rifle want. The heart of it is to see the women look better and feel better.”
Perez is an openly spiritual person herself and says she believes God has opened the door in answer to her dream, even during these tough economic times.
“When God gives you a vision, you go with it,” she said with a warm smile. “Despite the economy, he's going to provide for you. For me, I was inspired by God. I was inspired by Him.”
Through her business, Perez says she has met a lot of women and she tries to be a source of encouragement to them.
“People open up to me and sometimes I find myself just giving away books that I know they should read,” she said.
Perez keeps a saying on her computer written by American motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, which reads:
“You can have whatever you want in this life — as long as you help enough other people to get what they want.”
The hours of the Bliss Boutique are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The store is closed on Sundays.
