DENVER — The Citizen Telegram picked up 11 awards in several categories at the annual Colorado Press Association convention last weekend. The awards were announced at a ceremony at the Brown Palace in downtown Denver.

The newspaper won a first place award in the Public Service category for a heart attack series and prevention tips by Heidi Rice, Kelley Cox, John Gardner and Dale Shrull.

Rice also won a first place for a sports story about a woman who competed in a demolition derby. Shrull was also awarded a first place for Serious Column Writing.

Earning second-place awards were former editor Mike McKibbin for an agriculture story, advertising representative Laurie Vagneur and graphic designer Justin Cantwell for Circulation Promotion. The newspaper's Classified Section also won a second-place award.

Third place plaques went to Shrull and McKibbin for editorial writing, Kayden Christensen for Feature Page Design, Shrull and graphic designer Margaret Stoney for News Page Design, and Shrull for Small Space Advertisement and Newspaper Promotion.

The Citizen Telegram competes in the weekly division for newspaper with a circulation between 1,750 to 4,000.
