It's not DiGiorno, it's delivery!
Sometimes when the weather is bad, you're tired after a long work day or you just plain don't feel like going out or cooking at home, it's nice to have a hot meal delivered right to your front door.
In Rifle, there are at least two places to get a hot home-delivered meal.
Mancinelli's at 851 Railroad Avenue, serves up a variety of Italian food, including pizza, pastas and subs. The Rifle restaurant, owned by Jennifer Shavalier, has been around for more than five years.
Mancinelli's offers delivery in the evening hours from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. During the winter, the restaurant is closed on Sundays, but will be open seven days a week starting in May and will be open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
“Pizza is our most popular delivery item,” said Shavalier. “But ravioli dinners, chicken wings and salads are also popular.”
Menu items include 14-inch, 18-inch and Sicilian sizes or by the slice; special order items such as calzones or stromboli stuffed with your favorite toppings; spaghetti and meatballs; eggplant or chicken parmesan; cheese, beef or combo raviolis with garlic bread; hot and cold subs or sandwiches; hot or mild chicken wings and salads.
Mancinelli's will deliver within 10 miles of the restaurant and anywhere in Rifle. While delivery is free, there is a $10 minimum order. And, of course, tips are always appreciated. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Checks are not.
“Right now we're doing evening delivery only,” Shavalier said. “We used to do daytime delivery and will consider it again, but it needs to be worth it.”
Like many businesses, Mancinelli's has felt the effects of the economy and the loss of many oil and gas industry workers in the area.
“We've absolutely felt it, between the riggers and the economy,” Shavalier said.

Down the road, at 1538 Railroad Avenue, Shanghai Garden has been serving up Chinese cuisine in Rifle for the past 12 years and began delivery six months ago.
“The first reason is that we wanted to increase our sales,” said Janey Ho, manager of the restaurant. “We want to be able to serve people who can't come to us — maybe they don't have a car or they're staying at a hotel.”
Shanghai Garden delivers both lunch and dinner with a full menu of appetizers, soup, a la carte entries of beef, pork, poultry, seafood and vegetables, along with chop suey, Egg Foo Young, lo mein, pan fried noodles and fried rice. Full dinner combinations are also available.
The most popular items on the menu are the lo mein, sesame chicken, orange chicken and volcano shrimp.
“There's not one hour in the day that we don't have an order for those,” Ho said with a laugh.
Since starting its delivery service, it's been doing quite well.
“Especially in the bad weather,” Ho said. “We've been really busy the last few days with all the snow.”
Shanghai Garden will deliver throughout Rifle and to motels in Silt. There is a $2 delivery charge and a minimum of a $15 purchase. Delivery times usually range between 20 and 30 minutes.
“But when we're really busy, it takes longer — but so far we haven't had any complaints.”
Like Mancinelli's, Shanghai has also felt the repercussions of the economy and the reduction in oil and gas workers in the area.
“We've declined a little bit, but we are OK,” Ho said.
Shanghai Garden is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, with an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For delivery or take out, call 625-4430.
