Since the first Farmers Market started four years ago in Rifle, Carol Zadrozny of Z's Orchard in Palisade has sold her fruits, flowers, vegetables and herbs during the summer months in Rifle.
This year, although the market has moved from Second Street to Metro Park in north Rifle, Z's Orchard still has a stand.
“We've been here since the beginning, and we're probably the only one,” Zadrozny said.” But I'm thinking we're going to have a lot more traffic here because people are going to see us. There's not as much shade — but there's better traffic.”
And despite the move, Zadrozny said many of their repeat customers have found them.
At the first Farmers Market of the season, Z's Orchard was selling honey, produce, preserves and jams. As the season progresses, there will be zucchini, squash, fresh garlic, onions, turnips, three to four types of beets, lettuce, spinach, carrots and flower bouquets.
“Sweet corn and peaches will be available as they come in season,” Zadrozny said.
Other booths at the first Farmer's Market included Tarrin George and Levi Miller of the Red Barn Farm and Garden, a local family business, and Will Kogler of Fresh Bread and Pastries out of Denver.
The Farmers Market in Rifle is held every Friday through Sept. 25 from 4-8 p.m. in the parking lot of Metro Park between 16th Street and 18th Street off Railroad Avenue.
