Hospice of the Valley is offering “Grief Connections,” a six-session grief support group in which we learn, share and create ways to adapt to the loss of a loved one. The group meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. in Rifle, beginning June 25 and meeting every other week until Sept. 3. Open to anyone in the community who is mourning the loss of a loved one. The Gateway program at Colorado Mountain College and Garfield County DHS are holding a fundraising yard/bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 26, in the indoor arena at the Garfield County Fairgrounds. All proceeds go to the local Salvation Army. There will be lots of clothes and goodies.

Annual Cleanup
Trails Day
The Rifle Snowmobile Club will hold its annual cleanup of trails at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the groomer shed. A potluck cookout will be held after the workday at 2 p.m. at the groomer shed, so please bring a side dish or dessert or chips. Hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin's will be furnished. A free health screening will be offered in Rifle on June 29 at the Rifle Public Health Department, 195 W. 14th St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by Mountain Family Health Centers. The screening is open to the public, and anyone may attend. Checking risk factors regularly can help prevent serious health conditions from developing. The free screening includes cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index and a heart disease risk assessment. Fasting is ideal, but not required.

Literacy Outreach is looking for volunteers to tutor people who are eager to improve their reading, writing and math or English-speaking skills. Volunteers need at least two hours of time a week to work one-on-one with an adult, the ability to read and speak English and a desire to help someone who wants to learn. Volunteer information sessions will be held at the Rifle Branch Library at 6 p.m. on June 30 and July 2. Volunteer information sessions will also be held at 10 a.m. at the Parachute Branch Library and at noon at the Silt Branch Library. Operation Space Vacation Bible School
Children kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to attend Operation Space Vacation Bible School on Monday through Friday mornings beginning July 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at Apple Tree Park in New Castle. Dress for outside weather/sunscreen. Songs, crafts, games, goodies and dramas will help them as they have a “close encounter” with God's word. The Grand Valley/Parachute Centennial Publication books are now available at Parachute Town Hall. The booklet is rich in history and makes for exciting reading for residents and nonresidents alike. Your first copy is free; any additional ones are $3 each.
Town Hall construction
The new parking lot is under construction at Parachute Town Hall. The project is expected to be complete by mid-June. We will be opening our east door for public access to help you navigate around the site. We appreciate your patience and look forward to having you at our grand opening this summer.
