Teal LaRay Harper set off to paint portraits of angels, and with brush in hand, she danced through Heaven's Gates Wednesday, June 2, 2009.
Teal's childhood years were spent in Silt and Rifle, and she graduated in 2008 from high school at CrossRoads Academy Garden School in New Castle. Her family knew her as a beautiful writer and an enthusiast of poetry and science fiction. This talent surfaced at a young age; when Teal was 13, one of her poems was published in The Colors of Life, a collection of various authors' works from around the world. Her style of writing was usually comprised of dynamic characters, symbolism, twists, and sequels. One would often find Teal immersed in stories, envisioning far away fantasies.
Through Teal's passion for highly detailed art, she found beauty in painting stories that transpired beyond the surface of everyday reality. Often Teal's artistry portrayed famous musicians or Hollywood figures as she was inspired by the art of the human body. Owl by night and sleeper by day, she enjoyed painting and watching movies into the early hours of the morning.
She was happiest living each moment to the fullest, surrounded by the company of great friends, and seeking thrills that made one's heart skip a beat, like sky diving, cliff jumping, and amusement rides. The water was paramount in Teal's life and she particularly took pleasure in the ocean, swimming, and skiing. When she cooked, spicy noodles and artichokes were most certainly on the menu; however, she was most famous for the gooey brownies she baked. If the X-files series was on, friends and family knew that Teal was around.
As unique as her name, those who were fortunate to have known Teal knew she had a straight forward and one of a kind outlook on life. She was a genuine listener, teacher, and Teal's contagious smile sparked laughter and good times remembered by all those she touched. Many of those special moments will be cherished by Teal's siblings, whom she shared an incredibly close bond. Some of Teal's biggest fans include; her Father, Ray Harper; Mother, Kimberly Harper; Sister, Tatum Harper; Brother, Trace Harper; Brother Trexler (Taz) Milton; Grandparents, Timothy and Donna Rosette; Grandparents Wayne and Loretta Harper; and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Services have already been held. The family has requested that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Teal Harper Memorial Fund at Alpine Bank.
