• Animal Rescue Foundation’s 1st Annual Dog Jog Set, 9 a.m. at Koch Park in Aspen. A 3.2-mile course will be set up to run or walk. You can participate without a dog and rescue pets will be on hand to borrow for the race or adopt. • Garfield County Sheriff’s Auxiliary’s 8th annual scramble golf tournament at the Battlement Mesa Golf Club, limited to 104 golfers. Cost is $85 and includes a round of golf with a cart, a golf hat, $25 coupon for golf stuff online, lunch and prizes and trophies. This is the auxiliary’s only fundraiser.

• Mountain Family Health Centers will conduct free health screenings for anyone at the Rifle City Market, 1320 Railroad Ave., 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Screening includes cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index, and a heart disease risk assessment. No appointment is necessary, and fasting, while desirable, is not required. Free screenings are also available at your place of business (for 10 or more employees). • Animal Rescue Foundation is a volunteer group in the Roaring Fork Valley that works to save the lives of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are abandoned, abused, surrendered or face euthanasia because of overcrowded shelters. The group has no shelter, so they plan and attend events throughout the valley to find homes for the pets. The group also holds fundraisers to help pay for boarding costs and medical expenses. • Deadline July 1, 2009 Masterpieces of Colorado Tour will fund a dance tour that celebrates Colorado’s unique cultural heritage. Applicants are sought who can develop and implement a statewide dance tour that will acquaint Coloradoans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy, with performances that are artistically, historically and culturally significant and in some way highlights and celebrates the evolution of dance and choreography as it relates to Colorado. Proposed programs may focus solely on a particular choreographer, style, tradition, or subject area relevant to our state or region. The tour must include related educational and interpretive components. The Colorado Council on the Arts will award one grant between $50,000 to $55,000, which requires a one-to-one match, 50 percent of which must be in cash. To apply, go to coloarts.org.
