Rifle gets “dirty” exposure

Discovery Channel show on city sewer plant airs in October

Rifle has garnered much national media attention in recent years, thanks to natural gas development’s economic boost.

Now, Rifle will be recognized for a bunch of crap.

The city will be featured on the show "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe," scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel in October.

"Rifle is finally getting some notoriety and recognition," Mayor Keith Lambert joked. "We're on top of our game."

The show will feature Rifle's wastewater treatment plant and operator Dave Gallegos, who demonstrates the city's sewer bypass and the "Monster Muffin" equipment that Gallegos shows the

TV host how to clean.

“It's a nasty place to be," Gallegos said.

The show's producers were alerted to the idea by Rain for Rent branch manager Darren Flood.

Rowe’s job was to help set up a sewer bypass to pump fluids from one manhole to another. After putting the bypass pipes together, he climbed into the manhole, along with natural waste products, to make sure the pipe was in place and to clean the waste-covered pipes.

"It was really nasty," said Jaime Acero, team leader for Rain for Rent. "But Rowe is funny and a really nice guy."

Who obviously doesn't mind taking a little crap.

Rowe reportedly said that this particular job was one of the nastiest he'd ever done.

Check your local listings for the time when the show will air.
