Farmer’s Market
• Downtown Rifle — The third annual Rifle Farmer's Market on East Second Street, 4-8 p.m. through Sept. 28. Along with live music, around 12 vendors feature everything from fruits and vegetables to locally-made wine, jewelry, massage and crafts. New this year is a tent with ice shavings from Icy Treats and craft projects for the kids by the city's parks and recreation district. • 8 a.m., 4-H/FFA Junior Livestock Shows, indoor arena; 8 a.m., Poultry Show; noon, Beef Show; 5:30 p.m., Senior/Pee Wee Classic, sponsored by Cheryl & Co., indoor arena; place entries in box by announcer’s booth, entry time closes at 5 p.m. Livestock Showmanship for those not old enough to show (ages 3 - 7) at the 4-H level, or for those adults (19 & over) who just love to show. Now everyone can join in the fun of livestock showmanship. These two events are tailored for the crowd that is either too young or too old to show with the 4-H or FFA Organizations. Kids 7 and younger can get a friend’s or sibling’s animal to show in the PeeWee Classic. Animals must already be registered to show in regular competition. In the Senior Classic, adults 19 and older have had a blast in recent years, showing their animals with their own flair and style. Throw out most of the rules and come join us for a full-filled event sure to make your sides ache with laughter. Sign up to participate if you dare. • Employees of the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle, along with the Rifle Elk's Lodge, will host a benefit spaghetti dinner with live music by the White River Band. The benefit is to help defray medical costs for their co-worker, "Gabriela," and her daughters. The dinner will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the Rifle Elks Lodge, 501 W. 5th St. Cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children. There is also a $5 cover charge.
• Rifle Moose Lodge #1345 will hold their annual golf tournament at Rifle Creek Golf Course. A 4-person scramble, $75/player, $300/team, 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch is included after the tournament at the Rifle Moose Lodge, 133 E. 3rd St. Awards will be given for first, second and third place and various giveaways will be raffled during lunch. In keeping with this year’s fair theme of “Yesterday’s Memories and Tomorrow’s Dreams,” the first annual Garfield County Fair Car Show will begin immediately after the parade. The car show is open to all who love their automobiles, from the classic restoration and the 60’s muscle car to today’s zoom zooms.
The show is sponsored by Casey Concrete of Rifle, with participant dash plaques provided by Rifle CarQuest Auto Parts. Other sponsors of door prizes and giveaways are Alpine Bank, Rifle Napa Auto Parts, Rifle Conoco, Western Slope Trailers, Checker Auto Parts, Red Canyon Auto Body, Big O Tires Glenwood Springs and Piper Auto Sales. Prizes will be awarded to the top 20 cars, and a Best of Show trophy will be awarded, which will be determined by a panel of judges. A People’s Choice Award trophy will also be given. • Mountain Family Health Centers will conduct free health screenings for anyone at the public health department (WIC), 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., 195 W. 14th St. Screening includes cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index, and a heart disease risk assessment.
