Editor,
On June 20-21, Western Garfield County held the annual American Cancer Society's Rifle Area Relay For Life at Rifle High School.
It is with great pride that I am able to report the communities of New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute and the surrounding areas raised over $127,000 for the American Cancer Society in the quest to put an end to cancer. It is indeed an amazing community in which we live.
As the chair of this year’s event, there are many people I want to thank for that success.
The amazing committee that makes this event possible includes Cindy Baxter, Deb Zemlock, Cheryl Morgan, Mary Wheeler, Becky Sirotek, Mike Vanderpol, Sarah Tahvonen, Julia Faulkner, Jeannie Schroeder, Anne Guettler, Tina Sandoval, Christy Artaz, Mikaela Guettler and Joanne Nelson. Our ACS representative, Felicia Sabartinelli, is a fantastic person and an incredible guide.
All the survivors who participated in this event served to inspire and motivate us all to put an end to this disease once and for all. To the nearly 275 community members who came together to celebrate, remember and fight back, your creativity, passion and commitment to finding a cure are only surpassed by your enthusiasm.
Our sponsor list includes Premium Sponsors Grand River Hospital District, Alpine Bank, EnCana Oil & Gas and The Citizen Telegram; Gold Sponsors Boogie Down Light and Sound, Facility Innovation Services, Wells Fargo and Williams Production and Silver Sponsors Antero Resources, ConocoPhillips, Wal-Mart and Silt Medical Center. Community Banks donated the goodie bags.
Thanks to the Bank of Colorado, Domino's Pizza, Carbondale Car Care, Boogie's Diner, Bray and Co. Real Estate, East Avenue Carpet and Furniture, Glenwood Springs Elementary School, Castle Valley Children's Clinic, Gold Star Realty, M.B. Construction, Valley View Hospital, Action Shop Services, Innermountain Distributing, Pepsi, Rifle Lion's Club, Winchester Night Club, Western Pump & Dredge, Resource West, Grand Valley Pub and Grill, Uintah Engineering & Land Surveying, Baker Corp., Julia Burgess, Jamie Ulloa, An Exquisite Design, Moe's Southwestern Grille, KMTS and the Garfield Re-2 School District.
To all of you, and to those who I am sure to have forgotten, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, support and generosity. The money we raise does make a difference, locally, nationally and globally. Together, we will find a cure.
